ITINERARY:
Day 1: USA-ST. PETERSBURG
Depart from Newark, NJ airport for an overnight flight to St. Petersburg.
Day 2: ARRIVAL ST. PETERSBURG
Arrival to St. Petersburg, It is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. St.Petersburg was built to capture the best of Paris and Venice. Constructed only 300 years old, the city stands on over 100 islands and is linked by more than 300 bridges. Meet at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in St. Petersburg.
Day 3: ST. PETERSBURG
After breakfast we will tour of the city. You will see distinctive and familiar landmarks like the Smolny Convent, the Pushkin Theatre, the grand Kazan Cathedral, and of course the richly gold plated St. Isaac's Cathedral (one of the largest in the world). You will also see the striking "Bronze Horseman" statue of Peter the Great, founder of the city. You will travel along Nevsky Prospekt and see the Winter Palace of Russian Czars and the Palace Square.
After lunch you will take a tour of the Peter and Paul Fortress where the Romanov Czars are buried. This evening optional trip to a traditional Russian folk performance. Dinner and overnight in St. Petersburg.
Day 4: ST. PETERSBURG-OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO MOSCOW
After breakfast we will visit the Hermitage Museum, one of the largest art, cultural, and historical museums in the world, located in the winter residence of the Russian Czars. The Hermitage not only has a breathtaking collection, it also is an exquisite building with galleries and rooms that are themselves works of art. In the over 340 rooms of art works, you will be able to see paintings by Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Renoir, Monet, Picasso, and hundreds of the greatest artists that ever lived. After dinner transfer to train station to take an overnight train to Moscow.
Day 5: MOSCOW
Early morning arrival to Moscow. After breakfast, we will visit Red Square, the center of activity in Moscow. It is surrounded by the Kremlin, the famous onion shaped domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, the GUM Department Store, and the History Museum. You will have time to see the Lenin Mausoleum and take all the photographs you want. You will pass by the Olympic Stadium, the White House, the Bolshoi Theater, the American Embassy and many other famous buildings. After lunch your tour continues with a visit to the observation platform on the Vorobyovy Hills, which
has a panoramic view of the city and a chance to shop. Here you will also see the magnificent buildings of the Moscow State University. We will go to the famous Izmailovsky Park flea market, reputed to be one of the biggest in the world. It is a huge sprawling bazaar full of great finds, antiques, arts, paintings, and souvenirs and is tremendous fun for avid shoppers and collectors. . In the evening join the optional Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre for a spectacular performance. Dinner and overnight in Moscow.
Day 6: MOSCOW, CIRCUS SHOW
After breakfast we will join tour of the Kremlin. Within its over 60 acres, there are palaces, cathedrals, and towers. You will see the magnificent Ivan the Great Tower and Belfry, the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Palace of Congress, Cathedral Square and Terem Palace as well as the Czar Bell, and Czar Cannon. Your visit includes the Churches of St. Michael the Archangel and the Annunciation with their perfect paintings and icons. Time for lunch and to walk around the Arbat, a pedestrian-only street. In the afternoon you will visit the Tretyakov Gallery, which has an impressive collection of Russian icons and paintings. After dinner we will see the famous Moscow Circus Show. Overnight in Moscow.
Day 7: MOSCOW-SERGIEV POSAD (ZAGORSK)
After breakfast drive to Sergiev Posad (or still better known as Zagorsk), one of the most interesting old towns of the Central Russia is situated 70 km from Moscow. The town was built in the 14th century as a settlement around the St. Trinity Monastery established by reverend Sergius of Radonezh. He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church and became one of the most honored Russian Saints. The St. Trinity Sergius Monastery was one of the largest monasteries founded in Russia in the 14-15th centuries. In 1774 it was elevated to the status of Lavra i.e. the monastery of the highest rank. Today it is considered to be spiritual center of Russian Orthodox Church and has one of the most interesting historical museums, which displays Old Russian icons, ancient church plates, needlework, embroidery and church books. Return to Moscow for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: MOSCOW-USA
Transfer to Moscow airport for your flight back home.
